Neo-Paganism and U - Rev. Darcey Laine. Neo-Paganism has influenced our Unitarian Universalist tradition beginning in the late 20th century, coming to us first through the women's spirituality movement and affirmed by the addition of our 6th source "the spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions". This Sunday we will experience a short pagan ritual during our time with children. Then we will consider the diverse collection of traditions and practices within the contemporary pagan tradition, and how it has informed our own UU tradition. |

What is Worship? This spring Rev. Darcey Laine will host a workshop encouraging everyone to go deeper into the Sunday morning experience we all sometimes take for granted. We will play with and shape standard and alternative worship services, and find out our worship style. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have the option of leading all or part of a summer service with the support of Rev. Laine and the Worship Team. |
Paganism 101 ClassFacilitator: Rev. Darcey Laine Meets once monthly: 3/4, 4/1, 5/6, 6/6 at 6:30 pm Have you ever wondered what Paganism is all about? Ever wanted to learn more about rituals? Today's Pagans revere the Earth and all its creatures. They see all life as interconnected, and strive to attune to the cycles of nature. Practices are rooted in a belief in immanence - the concept of divinity residing within. The many Modern Pagans who have found a home in the Unitarian Universalist community are grounding our work in the rational structure, the intellectual balance, and the humanist core values that have descended to us from the Enlightenment. The course consists of 10 sessions, each about two hours long. Students are encouraged to participate, meditating, gathering materials, and other activities which provide more opportunities for students to interact with the material in a deeper way. You don't have to be a Pagan to participate, just curious and open minded. Contact minister@athensuuc.org for more information or to register.
